The Minnesota Early Hearing Detection And Intervention | The Minnesota Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program ensures that all newborns are screened for hearing loss. Children need screening for hearing loss beyond the newborn period. Not all newborns receive recommended follow-up and not all hearing loss can be identified at birth. Through Story and Song, Somali Minnesotan Looks to Preserve the Language | Marian Hassan has spent her career educating Minnesotans about Somali language and collecting oral histories from elder Somalis to prevent language loss in the state. Though Somali is the third most common language spoken in Minnesota behind English and Spanish, the language was not written down until the mid-1970s. Before that, Somalis had a rich oral tradition. Hassan just got a Minnesota Legacy Cultural Heritage Grant to continue her mission to preserve Somali oral tradition. She joined Minnesota Now to talk about her project. | Website |
Tick Bite Bot | The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention created the Tick Bite Bot.The Tick Bite Bot is an interactive tool that will assist individuals on removing attached ticks and determining when to seek health care, if appropriate, after a tick bite. The online mobile-friendly tool asks a series of questions covering topics such as tick attachment time and symptoms.
