Childhood overweight and obesity is becoming a nationwide epidemic. This self-study discusses the physical, psychological, and social effects of overweight and obesity in children and youth. It discusses factors that contribute to overweight and obesity as well as highlighting prevention techniques.
Every child, regardless of the presence of a disability or special need, has the right to have access to a healthy and safe environment in which caregivers provide the support necessary for each child to fully participate in order to reach their optimum growth, development and learning. The purpose of this self-study is to provide early care and education professionals with information and resources to enable them to feel more suitably equipped to include children with special health care needs in their early care and education programs.
This course will describe general fire safety information for early childhood programs including young children’s early fascination with fire. The course will look at tips to avoid fires and fire evacuation plans. Strategies will be discussed for fire safety and evacuation for children with specific disabilities.
